High Bridge Trail State Park

In 2006, Norfolk Southern Railway Co. donated a 31 mile tract of abandoned railways for the establishment of a new state park.  High Bridge Trail State Park opened to the public in 2008, featuring a long bridge for hiking, biking, and horseback riding.  The bridge itself is:

  • More than 2,400 feet long
  • 125 feet above the Appomattox River
  • The longest recreational bridge in Virginia
  • Among the longest in the United States

For parking closest to the bridge, go to River Road in Farmville, VA, 3 miles east of North Main Street.

Use these GPS coordinates for driving directions: 37°19.421 -78°20.231

Don’t forget to bring comfortable shoes and plenty of water!
